Description

STEMify your Instruction

Have you ever asked, “What am I supposed to do with 5 computers in my classroom?” or “How can I make use of all the smart phones students bring to class?” Have you wished you had some new strategies when you have heard a student say, “I’m not good at math?” Do you have difficulties deciding on what science teaching strategies are best to prep students for the Science test of the TASC? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this institute is for you!

Our science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) institute is designed as a four part series covering aspects of science, technology, and math in adult education. The sessions of the institute will build on one another and participants will benefit most by taking all four sessions (receiving a STEM digital badge!). But it is possible to attend just the sessions you wish to attend. In either case you must register for each session separately.

Have you ever heard a student say, “I’m not good at math,” or dealt with students who hate learning mathematics? Teaching and learning mathematics can sometimes be both challenging and present classroom management issues. In this session, we will discuss how students can and should learn mathematics in an effective and meaningful manner, keeping them engaged. You will be given concrete tips and tools for helping learners to see that math can and does make sense.

Audience: ABE, Pre-HSE, & HSE Instructors, Math Instructors
